How it all Began...
Presented by Illustrious Sir James Rennie, Past Potentate
In 1978, at a Clown Convention in Magan, Georgia, 3 Clowns took the Hillbilly Degree and put in an application to bring the degree to Toronto under the name of the Rameses Maple Leafs. Two of the Clowns instrumental in this were known as Cowley and Kooming.
In January 12, 1990, another application was signed by three Nobles, two of whom were identified as John Brien and John Carter. This was completed under the name of Rameses Temple Number 33.
In 1994, the Toronto Clown Club received the Charter; however, were having a difficult time keeping the Clown Club going. As a result, they decided to put an application into the Rameses Temple to form a Hillbilly Shrine Club. At this time, the President of the Toronto Clown Unit was Noble Brian Denton who in 1994 became the first President of the new Hillbilly Shrine Club and remained in this role for five consecutive years.
Today...
At the Rameses Hillbillys Shrine Club, we have fun – That’s what it’s all about. As proud members of Rameses Shriners headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, we are known as Clan 46 Hogtowners and also have outhouses located in Hamilton, Sudbury, Muskoka and North Bay.
We receive many requests from towns and cities across Ontario to perform in various parades annually, creating an opportunity to help support the Shriners Hospitals for Children which provide specialized treatment and medical care to children with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, cleft lip and palate, up to the age of eighteen years. This medical care to improve the lives of children is provided regardless of the patient’s ability to pay.
In addition to parades, we organize other fundraising activities such as social events, BBQs, pig roasts and chow downs and will put on a hillbilly degree for any club.
At Rameses Hillbilly Shrine Club, we play so our Shrine Kids can walk!
